Roberts creates lucrative business with the help of NRCS

Darlene Roberts, proprietor of Roberts Vineyard, tributes the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) for contributing to the success of her vineyard. She took advantage of the organization’s Well and Irrigation System program.

“NRCS has been very helpful in assisting with different services at the vineyard,” said Roberts. “They have been very supportive of me and have provided tips on how to improve my business.”

The NRCS is an organization that assists farmers, ranchers and small landowners by providing programs that help reduce soil erosion, enhance water supplies, improve water quality, increase wildlife habitat, and reduce damages caused by floods and other natural disasters.

For more information about NRCS programs, attend the Help for Farmers education and outreach event for historically disadvantaged farmers this upcoming Tuesday, August 31, 2021, 10:00 am at Roberts Vineyard. Register at www.helpforfarmers.org.

About Roberts Vineyard

Located in Byron Georgia, Robert’s Vineyard is a minority-owned, woman-owned and operated business. The proprietor of the Vineyard, Darlene Roberts, did not see herself on the journey of owning and operating a vineyard, but that didn’t stop her from being successful in an industry that has been a part of her family’s legacy since 1996. “I never actually wanted to own a vineyard, however I inherited one,” said Roberts. “It was a blessing that we vowed to make successful.”

Currently there are not many African American owned vineyards in Georgia, especially any that are owned by an African American woman. “I am grateful to be amongst the number of those who own vineyards,” Roberts continued. ” I hope there are other African American women out there pursuing this very lucrative business.”

Roberts Vineyard sits on five acres and grows muscadine grapes along with a variety of other produce. According to Roberts, owning the vineyard has come with its share of growing pains, but the success has made the journey worthwhile. As the business grows, so does Robert’s vision for the vineyard. “My motivation is my inside voice that tells me to pursue this golden opportunity. I am excited that I listened because I am a part of a rewarding industry.”

Moving forward with her vision for the future, Roberts plans to continue her family legacy by bringing her quality products to more people.
