It's No Till November!
No Till November is a fun way to remind farmers about the relationship between tillage and soil health. Improving soil health increases the soils biology activity, and provides erosion control, nutrient benefits, and can simulate tillage.
No Till is maintaining crop residue throughout the year and planting directly into it. The major benefits of this practice include:
1. Decreases erosion
2. Reduces input cost
3. Improves soil health
4. Reduces soil compaction
5. Reduces evaporation
Below is part of the Conservation at Work video series, which was created to increase producer awareness of common conservation practices and was filmed at various locations throughout the country. Because conservation plans are specific to the unique resource needs on each farm and also soil type, weather conditions, etc., these videos were designed to serve as a general guide to the benefits of soil and water conservation and landowners should contact their local USDA office for individual consultation. USDA is an equal opportunity provider, employer, and lender.
